Intel Cedar Trail CPUs … coming soon

Tranquil PC, Manchester, 30th August 2011

New 32nm CPU ‘Full Fat’ Atoms from Intel.

Tranquil PC are currently performance testing new Intel main boards fitted with the new series of Intel Atom CPUs – ie the D2700 (2.13GHz Dual Core)

The new series of main boards, some with a 3 year life cycle, are showing Intel’s commitment to the mini-itx form factor, and to longer life cycles.

One of the major benefits of the D2*** CPUs is the move to PowerVR (SGX545) Graphics. Still not really for gamers, the new GFX core is optimised for hardware video stream decoding – MPEG-2, MPEG-4 part 2, VC1, WMV9 and of course H.264. This should mean a low cost platform for HD media centre is now a reality – although we do recommend you to wait for our test report prior to making a decision.

From the table below, you can see the differences to the new D2700 CPU
